Habulay Brine Evaporation Test

1.0 litre of Habulay saline water yielded 350 grams of pan-dried crystal salt

To confirm physical salt recovery ahead of lined pilot pond construction, Noolays evaporated a measured 1.0-litre brine sample from the Habulay Saline River Basin (Dihun Woreda, Nogob Zone), recovering 350 grams of crystalline salt weighed after pan-drying.

Why High-Salinity Feed Matters

Coastal seawater saltworks require ~85–90% of their land area solely to concentrate dilute seawater (~35 g/L) up to saturation. Starting with hypersaline continental brine dramatically reduces primary pond area, accelerates harvest cycles and lowers capital expenditure per tonne.

Pilot & Commercial Pond Yield Estimator

Estimate net washed salt output across pilot and commercial pond batches using controlled crystalliser recovery (70–80% on 318 g/L NaCl).

Brine Input 1 m³ (1,000 L) Selected Habulay brine feed
NaCl in Feed (318 g/L) about 318.0 kg Dissolved NaCl benchmark
Indicative Net Harvest about 238.5 kg 75% controlled-crystalliser recovery (~239 kg/m³ net washed NaCl, bitterns drained)
Development Scale Brine Volume Indicative Washed NaCl (70–80%) Commercial Objective
Recorded Test 1 litre 350 g pan-dried (~220–250 g washed) Completed initial brine recovery check
Unit Cubic Metre 1 m³ 220–260 kg Standard engineering design unit
